The Franklin Fountain

Founded by the Berely brothers in 2004 in Old City Philadelphia, this old-fashioned soda fountain serves up the best homemade ice cream in town with as much integrity as the man behind its name. Named after the inspirational Benjamin Franklin whose portrait overlooks the shop on a daily basis, The Franklin Fountain  "aims to serve an experience steeped in ideals, drizzled with drollery, and sprinkled with the forgotten flavors of the American past". So whether you want a creamy root beer float, a sickeningly sweet milkshake, or a delicious scoop of rocky road there's no better place than here. They have original flavors, too many to name, genuine customer service, and an atmosphere you don't want to miss. Oh, but I must warn you, the lines sometimes linger down the street, especially on a warm summer's night. But it's definitely worth the wait. And, one more thing, leave your plastic behind because this place only takes cash and they wouldn't have it any other way as can be seen from the clearly out-dated cash register perfectly setting the mood. And keep this cheerful reminder from Benjamin Franklin himself in mind: "a good conscience is a continual Christmas." I think that quote suits this place just fine!
